Mid-week UFC action returns to the forefront of the MMA world this Wednesday, as “UFC Fight Night 35: Rockhold vs. Philippou” is scheduled to go down from The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.

The event, which broadcasts live on FOX Sports 1 following preliminary card action streaming on UFC Fight Pass, features a middleweight main event between former Strikeforce titleholder Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and striking specialist Constantinos Philippou (12-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC)

Both men had solid winning streaks snapped with lopsided losses in their last outings, and a win is absolutely necessary in order to stay afloat in the rapidly evolving middleweight division.

Neither fighter has ever suffered consecutive losses throughout their MMA careers, and they certainly don’t want to start now.

With high stakes set for the UFC’s first event in the state of Georgia since UFC 145 in April 2012, FightMetric research analyst and live statistics producer Michael Carroll helps bring you 45 pre-fight facts about UFC Fight Night 35.

MAIN EVENT

Rockhold was the only middleweight champion in the history of the now-defunct Strikeforce organization to successfully defend his belt twice.

Rockhold’s seven knockout or submission finishes in his Strikeforce career were tied with Cung Le for the most in company history.

Rockhold’s seven knockdowns in Strikeforce competition were the second most in organizational history behind Le (10).

Rockhold’s five submission victories in Strikeforce were tied with Tim Kennedy for the most in history.

Rockhold’s 30-second submission of Cody Devela at Strikeforce Challengers 2 was the fifth fastest submission in company history.

Rockhold has earned all eight of his career finishes in the first round.

Philippou will compete in the first UFC main event of his career.

Philippou’s five-fight UFC winning streak prior to his loss to Francis Carmont was tied for the fourth longest winning streak in middleweight history.

Philippou lands 88.1 percent of his significant strikes to his opponent’s head, the largest proportion in middleweight history (minimum of five UFC fights, 300 attempts).

Philippou has landed 71.5 percent of his significant strikes from a distance, the fifth largest proportion among active middleweight fighters (minimum of five UFC fights, 300 attempts).

Philippou’s three knockdowns landed against Jared Hamman at UFC 140 are tied for the second most ever in a UFC middleweight fight.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Brad Tavares’ (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak is the third longest in the middleweight division behind Carmont (six) and Chris Weidman (seven).

Tavares has won all four fights on his winning streak by decision.

Tavares’ owns the highest UFC winning percentage of any fighter from his season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show.

Tavares average fight time of 13:29 is the fourth longest in middleweight history (minimum of five UFC fights).

Tavares 3.4 significant strikes landed per minute is the fifth highest rate among active UFC middleweights.

Tavares lands 81.9 percent of his significant strikes from a distance, the second longest proportion among active middleweights behind Chris Camozzi (84.4 percent).

Tavares’ 80.8 percent takedown defense rate is the fourth best in middleweight history. The Hawaiian has stuffed 21 of 26 takedown attempts inside the octagon.

Tavares’ 116 significant strikes against Riki Fukuda at UFC on FUEL TV 8 are the fourth most ever landed by a middleweight in a single fight.

REMAINING MAIN CARD

Mike Easton (13-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) enters the event on the first two-fight losing streak of his professional career.

T.J. Dillashaw’s (8-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) 3.84 strikes landed per minute rate is the seventh highest in UFC bantamweight history. His 1.81 significant strikes absorbed per minute rate is the lowest in 135-pound history.

Dillashaw’s +2.03 strike differential rate is the 14th largest margin for any fighter in UFC history and third largest margin in UFC bantamweight history.

Dillashaw’s average fight time of 7:23 is the second shortest in bantamweight history behind John Albert (4:24).

Dillashaw’s 76 significant ground strikes landed against Walel Watson at UFC on FUEL TV 1 are the most ever by a fighter in a single UFC bout.

Yoel Romero (6-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is one of 10 fighters in UFC history to earn a knockout stemming from a flying knee strike.

Romero has knocked out his opponent in all six of his professional victories.

Derek Brunson’s (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) 48-second submission of Brian Houston at UFC Fight Night 31 was the fourth fastest in middleweight history.

John Moraga (13-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) competes for the first time since failing to capture the UFC flyweight title from Demetrious Johnson at UFC on FOX 8.

Moraga is one of nine fighters in UFC history to earn a knockout stemming from standing elbow strikes.

Moraga vs. Dustin Ortiz (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is the lone bout on the card pitting a fighter who lost their last fight against a fighter who won their last fight.

Cole Miller (20-8 MMA, 9-6 UFC) is 2-3 since dropping to the UFC featherweight division.

Miller’s six submission victories under the UFC banner are the fifth most in the organization’s history.

Miller’s 22 serious submission attempts are the eighth most in UFC history and his 10 serious submission attempts against Leonard Garcia at UFC Fight Night 11 are a single-fight UFC record.

Miller’s submission of Jorge Gurgel at the 4:48 mark of Round 3 at UFC 86 is the latest submission victory ever in a three-round UFC fight.

Miller’s 143 significant strikes landed against Nam Phan at UFC on FOX 4 are the second most ever landed in UFC/WEC featherweight history. Phan leads the category for his 174 significant strikes against Leonard Garcia at UFC 136.

PRELIMINARY CARD

Charlie Brenneman (19-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) returns to the UFC after being released from the organization in 2012. “The Spaniard” has won four fights with three submission finishes since his release.

Justin Edwards (8-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) makes his lightweight debut after competing in his first five UFC bouts as a welterweight.

Edwards has alternated losses and wins throughout his UFC career.

Edwards’ 45-second submission of Josh Neer at UFC on FX 5 is the fourth fastest submission in UFC welterweight history.

Isaac Vallie-Flagg (14-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has won his past three fights by split decision.

Vallie-Flagg enters the fight on a 12-bout undefeated streak. He has not suffered an MMA loss since July 2007.

Elias Silverio (9-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will compete in the lightweight division after winning his octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 28 as a middleweight.

Trevor Smith (10-4 MMA, 0-1) enters the event with just one victory in his past four UFC/Strikeforce fights.

It would be easy, almost too easy, to look at Luke Rockhold, assume that he’s a California “surfer dude” and expect him to take a cavalier attitude toward his fighting career.

Those expectations would be far off the mark though, and while the former Strikeforce middleweight champion doesn’t come off as a teeth-grinding ultra-intense prizefighter, some of the comments he makes in passing peg him as one of the most serious and intense athletes in mixed martial arts.

For a test, just ask him about the layoff that followed his last fight against Vitor Belfort, a May bout in which he lost for only the second time in his nearly seven year pro career, and the first since 2007.

“It’s rough,” he said. “Obviously I wanted to get back in and get the last one behind me as soon as possible. I’m tired of hearing about it and tired of seeing it, but it is what it is. I’m just focused on what I have in front of me, I’m excited I got a fight, and I’m ready to go.”

All the usual stuff you would expect to hear in the lead-up to Rockhold’s Wednesday night main event against Costas Philippou. All except the part about him being tired of hearing about and seeing the Belfort bout. That’s a fighter with the filter off and being real about constantly being asked about the worst night of his professional life. And while the next part of the response when it comes to that topic would normally contain clichés about it being an off night or that he forgot about the loss as soon as it happened, Rockhold refuses to walk down that well-traveled road.

“I’ll be over it once I get back in there with Vitor and return the favor,” he said. “That’s when I’ll be completely over it. For the most part, it’s behind me. I got caught by a crazy kick that he’s never done, and he’s obviously opening up different parts of his game that we’ve never seen, and he keeps improving somehow. So good for him, but it’s not gonna be enough the next time we come into the cage together, I’ll tell you that.”

At the point, you’re probably not worrying whether Rockhold has bounced back mentally from the loss to Belfort. He has, and as he approaches this week’s bout with Philippou, he’s not just confident of victory, but you can tell he’s got a bit of an edge to him, which makes the talented AKA team member even more dangerous, even if there’s no animosity between him and his opponent.

“All I need is a guy across the cage trying to take from me what I’ve worked so hard for,” said Rockhold. “Once I realize that, there’s no trash talk, there’s no amp up, I just need the opponent in front of me and the cage door to close. That’s all I need. I’ll throw a couple jabs in and do what I can for the fans; this is a fight sport, and it’s built off trash talk since the beginning of time, so it’s definitely bound to happen under certain circumstances with certain fighters, but he’s a nice guy. I met him, and we were cordial, but I’ve got to fight him. He’s trying to take what’s mine, so he’s going to get his ass kicked for it.”

Going to Brazil for the Belfort fight and leaving with a loss on his record wasn’t the way Rockhold wanted to be introduced to the UFC fan base, saying “The introduction I wanted was to go into Brazil and beat Vitor Belfort’s ass in front of his home country and then enjoy taking his fans and move on and then get a title shot. That’s what I was hoping my coming out party would be.”

But in the fight game, all it takes is one off night or one perfect spinning back kick to destroy anyone’s night, and though Rockhold enters the Philippou fight with an 0-1 UFC slate, you have to assume that fight fans already know of his unbeaten nine-fight resume in Strikeforce, his wins over “Jacare” Souza, Keith Jardine, and Tim Kennedy, and his penchant for finishing fights. In other words, they’re probably not judging him on one result, even if he’s still kicking himself over it, mainly for straying from his game plan on fight night.

“I think emotionally I got invested in that fight and I took a lot with me into the cage and it got the better of me and I started straying from my game plan when I should have just kept pressing forward,” he said. “I’m a little irritated by the whole matter. The last time I did that was Tim Kennedy, and I really didn’t have it until I was in the cage. I started getting pissed off hearing (Kennedy coach) Greg Jackson yelling this and that from the corner, and everything got in my head and I didn’t fight good. I got through that fight, but you can’t do that. You just gotta focus on what your game plan was originally and shake off anything that frustrates you and try to stick to what you’re doing in your fights. Every day in day-to-day training you run into these circumstances with different training partners, and you’ve got to keep shaking it off and keep your focus and keep your game plan. And that’s what I’ve been really focused on.”

Has it been working?

“Every once in a while I think anything can get into anybody’s head,” he admits. “If you’re a true fighter, certain things will piss you off and sometimes you want to get into a mano-a-mano kind of brawl. You load up and just want to take the guy’s head off. It depends on who you’re fighting and how it goes, but it can definitely happen.”

It can, but whether it does this Wednesday or not, there’s no disputing Luke Rockhold’s status as a true fighter. And he’s coming to fight in Georgia.

“I’m pumped for this, I need to perform well, and I need to win,” he said. “I’m not used to losing. I was undefeated in Strikeforce, I was the champion, and I’m not gonna start a losing streak here in the UFC. It’s not gonna happen and I’m gonna prove myself as one of the best guys in the world and move closer to that title shot. I’m not here to play second fiddle to anybody. I want to be the best, and that’s what I’m here for.”

Now that the ‘nog is out of your system, the perfunctory “Thank You” notes have been written to the relatives who sent you fruitcakes, and you no longer have to pretend to love the world, it’s time for more mixed martial arts (MMA) violence.

It’s a mid-week show (Weds., Jan. 15, 2014) this time as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads down to Duluth, Ga., for UFC Fight Night 35, which features former Strikeforce champ Luke Rockhold taking on Costas Philippou in a five-round Middleweight main event.

Several of the 185-pound division’s rising stars will also be in action, including Lorenz Larkin and Brad Tavares, who will go toe-to-toe in the FOX Sports 1 co-main event, while Yoel Romero battles Derek Brunson.

That’s not all.

We broke down three of the six scheduled UFC Fight Night 35 under card “Prelims” bouts yesterday right here. And, naturally, you can find the remaining balance below:

155 lbs.: Ramsey Nijem vs. Justin Edwards

After suffering a knockout loss at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale, Ramsey Nijem (7-4) quietly carved out a place for himself at 155 pounds, winning three straight bouts. Things went south in 2013, however, as he was viciously knocked out by Myles Jury in April and submitted by James Vick in August.

The 25-year-old, who fights out of “The Pit” camp, has ended four bouts inside the distance.

Justin Edwards (8-3) was on the wrong end of a close decision in his Octagon debut and has yet to really find his rhythm, going even (2-2) ever since. After choking out Josh Neer in seconds, earning “Submission of the Night” honors in the process, “Fast Eddy” took on the unfortunate task of welcoming Brandon Thatch to UFC and was promptly annihilated by the young prospect.

This will mark Edwards’ Lightweight debut.

I’m torn here. Nijem’s striking is still a major liability, as is his jaw, and he isn’t overwhelming enough of a wrestler to overcome that. On the other hand, Edwards is clearly making this cut out of desperation and, while losing to Thatch isn’t a big knock, he struggled mightily against John Maguire, whose wrestling is mid-tier.

I wouldn’t recommend betting on it, but I’m leaning toward Nijem.

Nijem is incredibly aggressive and Edwards doesn’t have the punching power to make him pay for that. Though he isn’t always successful with his takedowns, he’s so relentless in his pursuit of them that I question whether Edwards’ newly-drained body can handle it.

Expect Nijem to impose his will with increasing authority as the fight progresses, controlling Edwards on the fence and mat for a unanimous decision.

Prediction: Nijem via unanimous decision

155 lbs.: Isaac Vallie-Flagg vs. Elias Silverio

A product of Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA, Isaac Vallie-Flagg (14-3-1) has not lost a fight since 2007, going 11-0-1 in that span. After close wins in Strikeforce over stand outs Brian Melancon and Gesias Cavalcante, Vallie-Flagg made his Octagon debut last February, narrowly edging veteran Yves Edwards.

He has not competed since because a back injury forced him to withdraw from a planned bout with Sam Stout at UFC 161.

Elias Silverio (9-0) debuted last September on short notice, facing Joao Zeferino on the UFC Fight Night 28 card. Despite this handicap, he handily outdueled “The Brazilian Samurai,” sweeping all three rounds on all three judges’ cards.

The one-time Jungle Fight Welterweight champ will make his 155-pound debut.

I’ve flip-flopped on this one — Silverio should be the crisper of the two, but Vallie-Flagg is a poster boy for “ugly, but effective.” He’s a big, strong lightweight who tends to wear down opponents with constant, if ungainly, striking attacks.

Still, I’m going to lean toward “Xuxu.”

I would ordinarily hesitate to take a guy making his first weight cut in such a close fight. However, Silverio’s success suggests this is a voluntary cut, which should go some ways towards overcoming Vallie-Flagg’s physical presence.

Therefore, Silverio picks apart “IVF” on the feet to a sufficient degree that his volume — or lack thereof — fails to sway the judges.

Prediction: Silverio via unanimous decision

185 lbs.: Trevor Smith vs. Brian Houston

Though he came up short in his UFC debut, Trevor Smith (10-4) nevertheless entertained, slugging it out with veteran Ed Herman for three entertaining rounds. Unfortunately, he now falls to 1-3 in his last four, having been choked out by Tim Kennedy this past January.

All of his wins have come inside two rounds, nine of them submissions.

After ending three fights in a combined 3:13, Brian Houston (4-1) was tabbed to face Derek Brunson on the UFC’s third Fight for the Troops. Forty-eight seconds later, coincidentally the exact time of Houston’s last knockout, he was tapping out to a rear-naked choke, having eaten a big head kick early. Houston originally debuted in April 2012, a full three years later than Smith.

There’s a whole lot I don’t know about Houston — you can’t learn very much from a one-minute pasting. What I do know is that he is very fast and a devastating puncher. Though Smith is clearly the better grappler of the two, he looked terribly slow and hittable against Herman.

I don’t like picking the untested striker, but this seems to favor him. I don’t see Smith Pat Healy-ing his way through Houston’s onslaught or consistently closing the distance even if he does survive the power. Houston connects with something nasty early.

Prediction: Houston via first-round technical knockout

There may not be any true marquee fights, but we’ve got contenders out the wazoo. Not bad for a free card on a Wednesday.

Next Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2014) Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweights Cole Miller and Sam Sicilia will square off in the opening main card bout of UFC Fight Night 35 from The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.

Miller most recently beat fellow The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) participant Andy Ogle at UFC Fight Night 30 in October, while Sicilia erased a two-fight skid by defeating Godofredo Castro at UFC Fight Night 32 in November.

This bout is going to be crucial for the mixed martial arts (MMA) careers of both fighters. Let’s look a look at the key details for Miller and Sicilia:

*~*~*!*~*~*

Cole Miller
Record: 20-8 overall, 9-6 UFC
Key Wins: Andy Ogle (UFC Fight Night 30), Ross Pearson (UFC Fight Night 22)
Key Losses: Manvel Gamburyan (UFC Fight Night 26), Jeremy Stephens (UFC Fight Night 12)

*~*~*!*~*~*

Sam Sicilia
Record: 12-3 overall, 2-2 UFC
Key Wins: Godofredo Castro (UFC Fight Night 32)
Key Losses: Maximo Blanco (TUF 17 Finale), Rony Jason (UFC 153)

*~*~*!*~*~*

The 6’1″ Miller was once on a roll in UFC, earning three “Submission of the Night” bonuses in five fights at one point. However, “Magrinho” soon settled back to earth and has dropped four of his past seven Octagon bouts. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt will be looking to get Sicilia to the ground in Georgia. He has 14 submission wins and shouldn’t mess around with Sicilia’s knockout power.

Talented boxer Sicilia has had mixed results since his move down to featherweight, losing his first two bouts but defeating Castro. This bout will be a proving ground for him to make a case that he truly belongs in the tough UFC 145-pound division. Look for him to unleash a high volume of strikes at Miller, who has never tapped out in his entire career. The experienced Miller represents Sicilia’s toughest test in the Octagon — he’s going to need to bring his best game to pass it.

Sicilia could be fighting for his job in Georgia. If he loses, it will mark three losses in four bouts. Miller hasn’t exactly been stellar recently but his propensity for excitement and UFC track record will most likely keep him employed even if he loses.

Despite Sicilia having some solid submissions to his name, his power slugging should create an interesting contrast of striker vs. grappler here. If the fight goes to the ground, expect Miller to win handily. A kickboxing match will play directly into Sicilia’s hands. With high stakes on the line, expect a war at UFC Fight Night 35.

This Wednesday night (Jan. 15, 2014) Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweights Luke Rockhold and Costa Philippou will face off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 35, live on FOX Sports 1 from The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia.

Rockhold left Strikeforce as the promotion’s final 185-pound champion, but his UFC debut wasn’t quite as successful. He ended up on the wrong end of one of 2013′s most-watched mixed martial arts (MMA) highlights thanks to a brutal spinning kick from Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 8. With only two losses on his record, he’ll look to rebound against another powerful striker.

Cyprus-born Philippou was on a five-fight win streak before he ran into Francis Carmont at UFC 165. The talented boxer trained alongside UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at Serra-Longo, but recently switched camps to nearby Bellmore Kickboxing Academy.

We’ll see if the change helps against a very tough opponent.

With pivotal rankings implications in a crowded middleweight division, this bout is absolutely crucial for both fighters. Let’s take a look at the keys to victory for Rockhold vs. Philippou:

*~*~*!*~*~*

Luke Rockhold

Record: 10-2 overall, 0-1 UFC

Key Wins: Ronaldo Souza (Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov), Tim Kennedy (Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy), Keith Jardine (Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine)

Key Losses: Vitor Belfort (UFC on FX 8)

Keys to Victory: Number six-ranked Rockhold made a career in Strikeforce by bringing an extremely well-rounded game to the cage. The 6’3″ combatant possesses a solid arsenal of kicks that are effective at keeping his opponents at bay. He also benefits from training at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) alongside talented wrestlers like Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Fitch.

That knowledge should benefit him greatly against Philippou.

Rockhold has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and he’s used it to gain six submission wins throughout his career. More recently, however, he’s preferred to let his fists and feet do the talking, something that ultimately spelled his demise against the surging Belfort.

To win against Philippou, Rockhold needs to avoid falling in love with his stand-up game. While he’s no doubt proficient on the feet, there’s simply no reason to play into Philippou’s glaring strength by engaging in a slugfest. Rockhold should look to stay out of Philippou’s range with his kicks, then transition into a takedown attempt to open up submission opportunities on the ground.

The former champ is so multifaceted that he can be very unpredictable. The same can’t be said about Philippou, and that’s going to play into Rockhold’s hands in a big way in Georgia.

*~*~*!*~*~*

Costa Philippou

Record: 12-3(1) overall, 5-2 UFC

Key Wins: Tim Boetsch (UFC 155), Uriah Hall (Ring of Combat 34), Court McGee (UFC on FX 2)

Key Losses: Francis Carmont (UFC 165)

Keys to Victory: Number 10-ranked Philippou readily admits that boxing is his main skill set. He loves to throw heavy leather early and often in his bouts, and for the most part, it has been a successful strategy for him. He was met with some resistance when he faced a well-rounded fighter in Carmont. That doesn’t bode well for the New York-based striker, because Rockhold may be an even more complete fighter.

Philippou won’t stray from his gameplan of stalking Rockhold down to look for big shots. But, if he wants to avoid spending too much time on his back, he’ll need to bring some heightened takedown defense to the Octagon. Rockhold is smart enough to know where Philippou’s strengths lie, so he won’t be lulled into a brawl too easily.

If Philippou can utilize some angles to bypass Rockhold’s kicks, he could find an opening to get inside and unleash some vicious hooks. It won’t be easy, though.

If and when this fight hits the mat, Philippou is going to be out of his element. He’s only won one fight by submission, and that was early in his career. Rockhold has him outclassed on the ground, so it’s up to Philippou to keep the fight standing.

That won’t guarantee success by any means, however. Philippou’s best bet is to push the pace aggressively early on to look for the finish. Rockhold could have some lingering doubt in his mind after getting knocked out so emphatically in his UFC debut and Philippou needs to capitalize upon this. If he can make the fight ugly and blast Rockhold early on, he’ll have a chance to score his biggest win ever.

*~*~*!*~*~*

Bottom Line from Georgia: The bottom line for this fight is that Rockhold should hold a big advantage in terms of overall talent and skills. There’s no questioning Philippou’s boxing ability, but in today’s ever-evolving MMA landscape, it’s impossible to rise to the top by relying on just one skill set. Rockhold proved he is one of the best middleweights in the world by taking the Strikeforce belt from current number three-ranked middleweight Ronaldo Souza, so he can obviously hang with the best.

He just didn’t have much of a chance to get his offense working against the bulldozing Belfort.

The longer this fight goes, the more Rockhold’s technical advantage and complete game will begin to take over. Philippou throws huge punches that will trail off a bit if the fight reaches the championship rounds. But, you can bet that Rockhold will be looking to end this fight early by dragging Philippou to the mat and exercising his considerable advantage in submissions.

Philippou could surprise by turning the table on the canvas, but it’s unlikely. His best shot is obviously in his thunderous power. If Rockhold fights to the fullest of his abilities, it’s going to be hard for Philippou to find many chances to do so. His best shot is to rush the former champ to prevent him from finding his groove, similar to how Belfort beat him. Philippou is a step below “Phenom” at this point, but he has the power to shock the world on Wednesday.

On paper, this is Rockhold’s bout to win, but he can’t sleep on Philippou. It should turn out to be an entertaining fight for the fans in Georgia, with a shot at a top-five middleweight awaiting the winner.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held weighs ins for UFC Fight Night 35 earlier today (Jan. 14, 2014), and saw each of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete on the card make weight, which means the 12-bout card that goes down tomorrow night in Duluth, Georgia, is now official.

Conclusion of the weigh-ins means tomorrow night’s fights, headlined by a middleweight showdown pitting Luke Rockhold against Costa Philippou, are one-step closer to becoming a reality. All that remains are the winners and losers to be determined inside the Octagon live on Fox Sports 1.

Luke Rockhold and Costas Philippou will have a chance to re-emerge as serious middleweight title contenders on Wednesday.
Despite losing in their most recent outings, Rockhold and Philippou will meet in the UFC Fight Night 35 headliner. A win for either fighter could mean a return to the title picture in the intriguing middleweight division.
Coming off a loss to champion Demetrious Johnson, former flyweight title challenger John Moraga will also attempt a return to the win column on Wednesday’s fight card. He’ll meet up-and-comer Dustin Ortiz, who recently picked up a win in his UFC debut.
Additionally, Top 10 bantamweights TJ Dillashaw and Mike Easton will look to rebound in an important matchup on the UFC Fight Night 35 main card. While both lost their most recent fights, they could still be a couple of wins away from a shot at the 135-pound championship.
The UFC Fight Night 35 weigh-ins will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST. At that time, live streaming video will be available on the above video player.
Below is the entire fight card for UFC Fight Night 35, which will be held in Duluth, Ga.

As the first event of 2014 not shown exclusively on the new Fight Pass streaming platform, UFC Fight Night 35 featuring a middleweight battle between Luke Rockhold and Constantinos Philippou is shaping up to be a worthy belated New Year’s party.
The main event should satisfy even the most jaded MMA fans, and the sheer depth of the card should help keep anyone witnessing the show interested in the action.
While this event lacks the mainstream names needed to cement it as one of the more memorable shows of the year, this is a strong group of pure fighters that will set the tone for what promises to be an entertaining 2014.
